In our fast-paced world, maintaining mobility and vitality can often feel like a daunting task. However, incorporating daily stretching routines not only enhances flexibility but also promotes better mental health, reduces the risk of injury, and improves overall quality of life. Keep reading for four essential stretches to help keep you moving!

1. Neck Stretch

Start by gently tilting your head to one side, bringing your ear toward your shoulder. Hold for 30-45 seconds, then switch sides. This stretch alleviates tension in the neck and improves range of motion.

The benefits of a simple neck stretch can’t be overstated as many people "carry stress" in their neck and shoulders, and this stretch helps the muscles to relax and promote relaxation.

2. Shoulder Rolls "roll back and reset"

To perform this stretch, sit or stand comfortably and make circular motions with your shoulders. Move them up toward your ears, back, and down in a fluid motion. Repeat this for 10-15 rolls.

This stretch can be done once or twice an hour while sitting at a desk for long periods in the day.

3. Cat-Cow Stretch

Start on all fours with your hands under your shoulders and knees under your hips. Inhale while arching your back (Cow), and exhale as you round your spine (Cat). Repeat this sequence for 5-10 cycles.

The Cat-Cow stretch activates the spine and aids in maintaining a healthy posture. This stretch can also help range of motion through the back and spine.

4. Hip Flexor Stretch

Begin in a standing position and take a step back with one leg, keeping the front knee aligned over the ankle. Gently press your hips forward while keeping your back straight. Hold for 30 seconds, then switch legs.

Hip flexors are vital for mobility, especially for those who sit for long periods. This exercise looks to stretch a muscle that is usually in a shortened position while sitting at a desk.
