More than Needles: What Acupuncture Can Actually Do for You
Most people picture acupuncture as something you try when nothing else has worked. You've been living with the headaches, the tight hips, the cycle that derails you every month. Then somewhere along the way, a friend mentions needles. So here you are, curious but not entirely sure what you're signing up for.
That's a completely fair place to start. Let's talk about what acupuncture actually is, what it treats well, and what a session at Lolo Wellness looks like from the moment you walk in.

The Short Version of a Very Old Therapy
Acupuncture is a practice rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and it works by placing very fine needles at specific points on the body to influence how energy and blood move through your system. The goal isn't to mask symptoms. It's to address the pattern underneath them.
Modern research has added a complementary lens: acupuncture stimulates the nervous system, encourages blood flow to targeted areas, and prompts the body to release its own pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory compounds. Both explanations point to the same outcome. When the body's resources are directed where they're needed, it heals more effectively.
What Acupuncture Treats Well
Acupuncture has a broad scope of practice, but a few areas stand out at Lolo Wellness.
Chronic pain and tension
Whether it's a stubborn neck, a lower back that flares on long work days, or headaches that show up like clockwork, acupuncture gets underneath the pain cycle rather than interrupting it temporarily.
Women's health
Acupuncture shines here: menstrual pain, irregular cycles, PMS, perimenopause and menopause symptoms. Hormonal balance is complex, and acupuncture supports it by working on the whole system rather than one symptom at a time.
Fertility support
Acupuncture for fertility is one of the most evidence-informed areas of the practice. It improves blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, supports hormonal regulation, and reduces the stress load that can disrupt a cycle or affect outcomes alongside reproductive endocrinology treatments.
Stress, anxiety, and sleep
The nervous system responds quickly to acupuncture. Patients often notice a shift within the first session: a quieter mind, better sleep, a lower baseline of tension.
Herbal medicine
Traditional Chinese herbal formulas are available as a complement to needle treatment, particularly for chronic or complex conditions where added support between sessions makes a real difference.
What to Expect at LoLo Wellness
Your first session starts with a conversation. Isabel will ask about your main concerns, but also about your sleep, digestion, energy levels, and stress. In Chinese medicine, those pieces are connected. That intake shapes the treatment.
The needles themselves are hair-fine. Most people feel very little on insertion, and many fall asleep on the table. Sessions run about an hour, giving the treatment time to settle in properly.
After your session, you may feel relaxed and a little floaty, or you may notice a shift in your symptoms within a day or two. Acupuncture is cumulative. The changes build with each visit, and the gap between treatments typically widens as your body holds the results for longer.
Isabel da Silva, BSc, RTCMP, is a Registered Acupuncturist and Herbalist with a background in biological sciences and nutrition. She completed her Diploma of Acupuncture with distinction and is a registered practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She also spent some time teaching the next generation of acupuncturists and herbalists, which means her clinical knowledge stays current and her approach is grounded in both tradition and evidence.
